A Season of Gratitude………

It’s been almost a year……
December 3, 2011, our lives changed in an instant.

Our daughter, Lauren, came close to losing her life.

What a year it’s been………………..
Sometimes it feels like yesterday; sometimes it feels like forever ago. Life moves on. New norms being established.

The holiday season is upon us. Chill is in the air. Pumpkins crowd our porches. Christmas around the bend.

The East coast just hit by “Sandy”. People scrambling. Power out. Homes lost. Lives changed in an instant…..

And I sit here………… thinking and contemplating, entering this holiday season with GRATITUDE………

I don’t know what’s gone in your world this past year, but how about if we look to God with gratitude and thanksgiving no matter what we have experienced………..and ask Him to remind us of what to be thankful for.

Make a list………..write it down……..remind yourself….

Here I sit……..contemplating, thinking, thanking and penning a Gratitude list, and am reminded that:

Jesus was born and died on the cross to save us from our sins in order that we would have eternal life…..(John 3:16)

We have the living and active Word of God, the Bible, to mold, shape, guide and transform us…..(Hebrews 4:12)

We have the ability to see things from an eternal perspective….

We have meaningful conversations…..

It is God who carries us…….

Our daughter, Lauren……..lived. God spared her life, and has blessed her with deeper insight into this temporal life…

God, never once, has left us on our own… He never leaves us or forsakes us.

Brittany and Shaun, have past their two year mark of being in a Jesus-centered marriage……..

Our marriage is stronger, more profound, and richer than ever…..

We enjoy a cup of coffee…..

We have incredible friends we do life with….sharing the joys and the struggles….

We get to love and serve others.

God restored our marriage 13 years ago….after 7 years of divorce…

We do our best to focus on the positives, not the negatives……

We have a home, food on our table, water to drink and peaceful surroundings….

We have faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love………….

May I suggest you write a Gratitude list?

Thanks so much for sharing and reminding me to be grateful. I prayed for Lauren, the doctors treating her, and your family when the accident happened. It was great to get this email today. Perfect timing. Prayers for a much calmer upcoming year to your family. God Bless!

I am very thankful for how you have turned your family trials into blessings through your Lord and Savior. I, too, have had many trials in life that I am very thankful for because they have all brought a different and closer aspect to my relationship with Jesus Christ. From sexual child abuse, loss of two sons to a divorce I did not want two years ago, my God has become much more real and faith has grown. I truly could not survive if it were not for my God and King with The Lord Almighty being my husband (Isaiah 54:5). I now count it ALL joy!!!

You are so right. Thanks for the update and reminders. It has been quite a year for you folks but here you are, one year later and going strong. It has been a good year for us. We are so blessed.

Thank you so much for this email. It is so easy to focus on the negatives. It is called self-pity and it comes from Satan. While we should not ignore our suffering, it depends on our response to it that our Lord can do His work in us, to give us a hope & a future and the fulfillment that only comes from Him.
Lord help us all to have an attitude of thankfulness, help us and teach us to trust in Your promises to us and to see all that You do, to obey You and to be thankful for what You have done, for what You are doing and for what You will do in our lives, Amen.

Thank you for reminding us how truly blessed we are. When your marriage was being reconciled mine was falling apart. It doesn’t seem like it was 13 years ago. I have been sober and divorced for 13 years. God pulled me out of the darkest time in my life and placed my feet on solid rock. I heard the other day something that really stuck with me. If all I had today was what I thanked God for yesterday, what would I have? Gratitude is being more aware of what you have than what you don’t have. You and Jeff have been a blessing to so many people and I know Lauren has touched many lives.
I wish the Scruggs family a most blessed hoiday season and very grateful to be able to call you friends. God bless.

Dear Cheryl, Your gratitude is humbling. I am listening to part 2 of Focus on the Family broadcast because someone called and said I had to tune in so I could hear about a couple who reconciled after an affair and 7 years of being divorced. My husband and I were divorced for 3 years and remarried so my heart is celebrating with you as sisters in Christ who fought through a battle that would have been lost if not for the Lord’s power and grace. I have prayed for your daughter Lauren many times since I saw her story on the news and only this morning did I put the pieces together that she belongs to you. I will send couples from our area to you now that I know about your ministry and I thank the Lord for your willingness to reconcile. May Jesus comfort you, heal your daughter and show you His mercies and wonders this Holiday season.
